Apple MacBook Air 13-inch (2017)

It can’t run Windows 11 officially, but it can stay useful for years with Linux Mint or ChromeOS Flex.

Windows 11

Not supported

Its 5th-gen Intel processor isn’t supported, and Apple’s Boot Camp only supports Windows 10 on this model.

Linux

Runs well

Runs Linux, but the Broadcom Wi-Fi needs the proprietary “wl” driver, and the webcam needs an unofficial driver.

ChromeOS Flex

Certified

Certified by Google (as MacBook Air 7,2) until 2027, but the webcam doesn’t work.

Our recommendation

Enroll in Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (free for most people) to stay safe until October 12, 2027, then move to Linux Mint or ChromeOS Flex.
