iOS 27.2 update brings Siri AI to 5 more languages and lets it remember past chats

Apple released the iOS 27.2 update on Monday, October 26, and with it Siri AI now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish as well as English. The update also lets the new Siri recall earlier conversations and draw on more of your personal context, such as voicemails and Calendar attendees.

Siri AI speaks more languages

Siri AI is the rebuilt version of Siri that Apple introduced with iOS 27. It's still labeled a beta. Until now it worked only in English, and Apple's support page notes that availability also varies by region and platform.

With the 27.2 releases, Apple added French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. The same languages arrive in iPadOS 27.2, macOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2. Apple says Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese will follow by the end of the year.

To use it, your device language and Siri language must be set to the same supported language. Siri AI still isn't available on iPhone in the EU or for accounts in mainland China, and Apple says it's not available to users under 13.

What else is new in iOS 27.2

Apple's release notes list several Siri changes on top of the new languages:

Outside Siri, Suggestions in Messages offer quick actions in apps like Calendar and Reminders based on a conversation, such as adding a Calendar invite for a dinner. Shared Albums in Photos now let you edit captions and comments, help you avoid adding duplicate photos and can remind people before an album expires.

The update also adds support for SynthID watermarking in Photos and Image Playground, which helps identify images made or changed with generative tools. The Apple TV app gets Simple Profiles for each person in a household, and FaceTime can add a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call. Podcasts adds separate New Episodes and Continue Playing sections to its Home tab, and the Games app adds context to friend suggestions. Apple says the release also includes bug fixes and security updates.

Which iPhones get Siri AI

Siri AI needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence. Apple lists the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone Air and iPhone Duo.

Apple also says server-based Apple Intelligence features, including Siri AI, have daily usage limits that vary by feature, request complexity and demand. It plans to charge a fee for expanded access in the future.

What it means for you

If you have a supported iPhone and speak one of the new languages, this is the release that makes Siri AI usable in your own language, where it's available. Install it from Settings, then General, then Software Update, and tap Download and Install. Back up your phone first.

After updating, go to Settings, tap Siri, then tap Try Siri AI (Beta) to turn it on. Apple says this places you on a waitlist and that wait times vary.

On an iPhone that doesn't support Apple Intelligence, you won't get Siri AI, but Apple says the release also includes bug fixes and security updates. Turning on automatic updates in the same Software Update menu means you won't have to remember next time.
