Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, is now in stores

Apple’s iPhone Duo arrived at Apple Store locations worldwide on Friday, October 23. It’s the first iPhone that folds, and at $1,999 to start, it costs $800 more than the cheapest iPhone 18 Pro.

What Apple is selling

Open, the iPhone Duo has a 7.6-inch inner display, which Apple says is 50 percent larger than the screen on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. When the phone is closed, its 5.4-inch outer display offers 90 percent of the screen area of an iPhone 18 Pro, according to Apple.

The phone runs on Apple’s A20 Pro chip and uses what Apple calls a dual-battery architecture. It’s rated IP68 for splash, water and dust resistance and comes in two colors: star white and night sky.

On the back are two cameras: a 48MP Fusion Main camera with what Apple calls an integrated optical-quality 2x Telephoto, and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera that also shoots macro. For selfies, Apple says its Center Stage front camera adjusts to any orientation automatically, so you don’t have to turn the phone sideways for a landscape shot. A second FaceTime camera under the inner display lets you make video calls with the phone open or propped up on a surface.

What it costs

Apple sells the iPhone Duo in four storage sizes in the US:

You can also lease it through Apple Upgrade, which is provided by Klarna, from $57.99 a month over 24 months before taxes and trade-in credit.

How the software changes

iOS 27 adapts to the fold. Apps can run side by side in Split View on the inner display, and the phone switches screens when you flip it over. StandBy, which turns the phone into a clock or widget display, works on either screen even when the phone isn’t charging. Siri AI, Apple’s rebuilt assistant, is rolling out in beta in English with iOS 27.

What it means for you

At $1,999, the iPhone Duo has the highest starting price of the five models in the iPhone comparison chart on Apple’s online store. It makes the most sense if you want the biggest screen on any iPhone, at 7.6 inches, and spend a lot of time reading, watching video or working in two apps at once.

If photography is your priority, look at the iPhone 18 Pro first. It starts at $1,199, and the same chart lists a 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera and optical zoom options up to 8x.

If you plan to trade in an older iPhone, compare the offers before you buy. Apple’s own instant trade-in credit is worth up to $885, depending on the model and its condition. Carrier offers from AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon depend on your plan and the phone you trade in, and Apple says they’re limited-time and subject to change.
